No more logging into active account & booting current player
My husband and I know eachother's account passwords. Several members of our guild are close friends and know eachother's passwords. We've run into the following problem a couple of times: You're playing and someone logs into your account and boots you out of game.
I personally would like it if this could be changed so that if an account is being played, anyone else trying to log into that account would just get an error message saying that account is being played and cannot be logged into.
I know one answer to this would be to not give our your password and loggin, but com'on -- I know many people who have close friends and / or significant others. We trust eachother. We trade eachother items. We use eachothers account every now and then.
For now, we just try to make it a point to log in to our own accounts first to check if that person is on their account -- then we log in to their account. However, I would like a safeguard that makes it so that no one (friend or foe) can log into my account while I am playing.

I once had the experience of getting kicked off while I was playing and coincidentally had been arguing with someone about how much he was going to pay me for an item i had . I hurried and logged back in and was able to change my password before any harm was done. I think this might be the way it is for security reasons....I could be wrong though.

I believe it says somewhere in the EULA that it isn't allowed to "share" accounts, but I may be wrong, so that may be why a feature like this isn't added?

Yes, there is a rule about not sharing accounts. Under that rule I do see how the "no booting" feature wouldn't be needed.
However, I interpreted "sharing" in that rule as 2 players using the same account for their game play. I'm not sharing my account -- I'm allowing someone access to it. My husband has his own account. Everyone in our guild has their own accounts -- some have multiple accounts of their own. Most of us have a husband/wife, or boyfriend/girlfriend or good friend that we trust to access our account if they need to borrow some cloth or iron or whatever. A "no booting" feature would be nice so we don't boot someone out of a mission for 3 bolts of cloth. :-)

evidently you want to let a person who took advantage of someones carelessness in passwords/email addy to log into someones account and loot it at their leasure while the owner tries to log in and gets rejected.
if you want to practice the account equivalent of free sex fine but dont expect the rest of us to be your enablers in your folly.

Actually Anet stance is one account per person.
This was brought to my attention when I mentioned in an older post about me and my wife had our character and were happy in the 6 vs 8 (with having 6 slots) slot thread and used it againt me at the time I was unaware of this situation / EULA clause.
How closely Anet enforces this (acutally kick) without someone having to report you for it, I have no idea, but I doubt they will change this feature.

Sharing accounts is a very very dangerous thing.
Ok, some kiddos have to share their account with their brother or sister or whatever but that is because their mom (the owner) said so. If they have a problem then they complain with their mom and not with ANet.
Now if you would own an account and you share it with a friend and that friend turns out to be a bastard, who do you complain to?
ANet.
Lets take it a few steps further.
What if you want to go legal on his ass? That will be costing $$.
By putting up a rule that disallows people to share accounts, ANet is saving money, people who read the EULALA are saving money and the wannabe scammercheaters are in some way, saving money.
They really really don't want all the e-drama.
The booting thing is probably there to enhance security (read: give stupid people who get scammed a chance to salvage some of their property)

wait, so if we have a brother or sister, we're not supposed to share the account with that person? It's not like we can both be on at the same time anyway.

My husband knows my account stuff and I know his... I seriously doubt we will be splitting anytime soon....
hmm...
Well there is this one guildie he seems quite fond of.... Heck he seems popular with all the men in our guild >_>
<_<;;;;;;;
....
Anyways I know how that feels and personally I think there should be ONE warning and then the next log on bumps them. I was trying to catch my husbands ranger up to me so we could mission and I warned him that I was doing THK..... THE BUGGER THOUGHT I WAS JOKING! I was at the end... WE HAD THE BONUS TOO!
I had so much hate for him right then and there.... I think God himself put cotton balls in his ears that day >_>
(and said previous idea about "are you sure you want to log in" seems viable as well)
My husband and I don't "share" accounts.... We were supposed to on my second account but I ended up with two sole accounts and he has one (NANNERS!) And then I have an account where I keep materials for the guild for if they ever need anything, very handy too, but no characters on that one are actually played, just used as mules.
So yes some warning would be nice. OR RECONNECT FEATURE FTW!!!! >_> Since that seems to be the only time it would really bug me is in a mission (or possibly a long quest).
And last I heard, sibling rivalry can get pretty harsh! -_-

lol Eviance. See!! I logged my husband off when he was in the middle of SF with an army of minions... the guild was not happy with me. lol All I wanted was some cloth!!
And good point. The reconnect feature would solve this problem too.

Anet basically wants everyone who is actually playing the game to pay for their account. It's like stealing software if you aren't paying for your account.
I personally like supporting Anet in this due to their "no subscription fee" policy. They keep the cost low and one time.
Plus, if you guys ever get 2 computers or if one of you is somewhere else with access to a computer you could play together. :-)

What.. By the sounds of it, you let other people play on your account, which, if we go back to kindergarten, is sharing.
"I'm not sharing my Gushers, i'm just letting my friend Timmy have some."
It's amazing what you learn in kindergarten.

Sharing accounts is a no no according to the EULA. However i do sympathize, ive logged into other people's accounts to get them Holiday stuff before. .
However................................
An anti-boot system can be established to protect against account stealing/hackers etc by allowing only 1 user on and not allowing another instance to log in through the same account.
"Another IP is attempting to log into your account."

i love people like you.
as long as someone agrees with whatever hairbrained idea you have it is peaches and cream.
a disagreeing word or opinion is trolling.
if someone hacks my account and bumps me i want to bump them off fast before they can loot the account at their leisure
since you are leaving i suggest GWonline as a kindred spirit forum that does not tolerate the slightest trollishness from anybody
bye

what if people steal your account..i think a msg should be displayed if someone is trying to log into your account. plus the "account is in use" message....

that would not work im afraid.
example.
i am not playing at the time a hacker gets into my account.
i try to log in and instead of booting whoever is in my account i cant get in and the hacker gets a warning it is time to leave fast with all the goodies
